Over the course of six months, Boston Renewables installed 11,000 solar arrays on the Castle Hill site in Cottingham. Once connected to the grid, the site will generate a total of 4,258,000 kWh annually and will be capable of producing enough renewable energy to power the entire hospital. The solar farm is due for completion in early 2022 and will be a huge step for the trust in its target to become net zero by 2030—ten years ahead of the NHS’s current target of 2040.
Managing Director John Hudson said, “Boston Renewables has been very proud to work on behalf of the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in delivering such a prestigious development.”
In March 2022, COP26 President Alok Sharma visited the site and learned more about its benefits not only for the hospital but also for the Humber region.
